Opportunities include leadership, hospitality and logistical support, communication support, designated giving options, volunteer coordinators, and specified expertise. 3000 Miles for Peace Campaign

The 3000 Miles for Peace campaign is a fundraising and awareness-raising campaign of On Earth Peace. It is a national campaign of riders and walkers gathering funds and support for On Earth Peace, in honor of a young peacemaker, Paul Ziegler. Riding and walking events are happening all over the country from now through late September with the goal of raising $300,000 for the violence-prevention programs of On Earth Peace. Job Descriptions

All of the below listed volunteer staff positions will work directly with the Development Director and Development Assistant at On Earth Peace. Each position will require strong communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team. Each position can be held at a distance from the North Manchester, IN campaign office, but would require access to a computer, internet and the ability to work under limited supervision.

The below positions are available immediately, and would ideally be held through the end of September, at the conclusion of the 3000 Miles for Peace campaign. Each position can be negotiated based upon personal strengths and experience, and hours of availability. 

Each of these below volunteer positions fall under the category of Outreach and Organizing, and would fit a person with the following: 

Strong interpersonal skills

Motivated by the cause of peacemaking

Enjoys getting others involved

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Strong computer literacy, including email and Google documents

Ability to document own progress

Summer Camp Campaign Organizer

This volunteer could work anywhere from 5-40hours/week. This volunteer would be responsible for reaching out to summer camps both within and beyond the Church of the Brethren network to encourage the organizing of 3000 Miles for Peace events. This would include direct phone calls, emails, and publicity in appropriate venues. This volunteer would communicate progress and contacts with the Development Assistant and Development Director of On Earth Peace, and complete any appropriate documentation. 

Campus Campaign Organizer

This volunteer could work anywhere from 5-40hours/week. This volunteer would be responsible for reaching out to college campuses both within and beyond the Church of the Brethren network to encourage the organizing of 3000 Miles for Peace events. This would include direct phone calls, emails, and publicity in appropriate venues. This volunteer would communicate progress and contacts with the Development Assistant and Development Director of On Earth Peace, and complete any appropriate documentation. 

Congregation Campaign Organizer(s)

This volunteer could work anywhere from 5-40hours/week. This volunteer would be responsible for reaching out to congregations both within and beyond the Church of the Brethren network to encourage the organizing of 3000 Miles for Peace events. This position could be split into multiple positions of people within different networks (i.e. Methodist Outreach, Anabaptist Outreach, UCC Outreach, etc). This would include direct phone calls, emails, and publicity in appropriate venues. This volunteer would communicate progress and contacts with the Development Assistant and Development Director of On Earth Peace, and complete any appropriate documentation. 

Bike Club Campaign Organizer

This volunteer could work anywhere from 5-10hours/week. This volunteer would be responsible for reaching out to bike clubs across the country and within their own network to encourage the organizing, promoting and sponsoring of 3000 Miles for Peace events. This would include direct phone calls, emails, and publicity in appropriate venues. This volunteer would communicate progress and contacts with the Development Assistant and Development Director of On Earth Peace, and complete any appropriate documentation. 

Walking Club Campaign Organizer

This volunteer could work anywhere from 5-10hours/week. This volunteer would be responsible for reaching out to walking clubs across the country and within their own network to encourage the organizing, promoting and sponsoring of 3000 Miles for Peace events. This would include direct phone calls, emails, and publicity in appropriate venues. This volunteer would communicate progress and contacts with the Development Assistant and Development Director of On Earth Peace, and complete any appropriate documentation.

Campaign Publicity Manager

This volunteer could work anywhere from 5-40hours/week. This volunteer would reach out to likely networks and organizations within and beyond On Earth Peace and the Church of the Brethren’s usual circles to generate interest in campaign events and donations. This individual could discover new likely lists of possible supporters and contact them. This would include direct phone calls, emails, and publicity in appropriate venues. This volunteer would communicate progress and contacts with the Development Assistant and Development Director of On Earth Peace, and complete any appropriate documentation.

Campaign Merchandise Organizer

This volunteer could work anywhere from 5-10 hours/week. This volunteer would coordinate campaign merchandise, which could include shirts, caps, wrist bands, and other possible swag. This volunteer could also be responsible to distribute this merchandise to various organizing teams who request it. This volunteer would create, obtain, take orders, establish counts, and ensure a timely delivery of merchandise. This volunteer would communicate requests and progress with the Development Assistant and Development Director of On Earth Peace, and complete any appropriate documentation.

Church of the Brethren Annual Conference Campaign Organizer

This volunteer should plan to work 50-80hours before the conference in July. This volunteer would work to make maximum use of the Annual Conference for campaign growth and fundraising. This volunteer would work with those already interested in generating a 3000 Miles for Peace campaign event at conference to deliver an inviting and well-coordinated event. This individual would oversee Annual Conference activities on-site. This volunteer would communicate planning with various members of On Earth Peace staff, and complete any appropriate documentation.

Note: This individual could also consider organizing a 3000 Miles for Peace presence at the Church of the Brethren Older Adult Conference. Alternatively, another individual could take up this cause separately.

Twitter and Social Media Campaign Organizer

This volunteer could work 5-10 hours per week on twitter and social media tasks of the 3000 Miles for Peace campaign. This would include regular tweeting on the 3kmp twitter account, encouraging other 3000 Miles for Peace participants to use twitter regularly, checking  On Earth Peace’s facebook account for campaign activity, and creatively generating activity on other social media and online channels. This volunteer would communicate progress regularly with the Development Assistant and Development Director of On Earth Peace.


Peace Day 2013 Campaign

Help congregations and other groups organize events including prayer, cultural sharing, music, and art, to interrupt violence in their communities, and to get their communities talking together and praying for peace, on or near September 21. Learn more here: http://prayingforceasefire.tumblr.com/

Graphic Designer

Mission: Provide high-quality designs to help inspire and equip local Peace Day organizers calling for truces in their own community.

Description: Provide support to On Earth Peace’s 2013 Peace Day campaign through professional-level graphic design services.

Benefits

  • Participate in volunteer training provided by On Earth Peace, including an orientation to Kingian nonviolence and full-spectrum peacemaking
  • Grow the national and international movement to challenge violence and build reconciliation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop digital-format template for all digital resources. Deadline: June 4.
  • Apply to digital resources to produce laid out PDF documents ready for upload. Deadline: June 14.
  • Create locally-adaptable flyer for printing and use by participant groups. Deadline: June 19.
  • Be on call to format up to three additional handouts/month June-September.

These four positions share a common set of benefits and responsibilities. We are looking for folks who are excited to help us spread the word in your relations, networks, and regions, about Peace Day 2012, to help communities around the U.S. and around the world catch this vision.

Mission: Build excitement and recruit leader/organizers for the vision of a twenty-four hour ceasefire in communities around the world

Description: Peace Day Recruiter/Organizers will build relationships and develop contacts within their specific constituency in order to recruit local leader/organizers for Peace Day 2013.

Benefits

  • Grow the national and international movement to challenge violence and build reconciliation.

Responsibilities

  • Identify needed resources to help reach out to your constituency.
  • Create a plan and timeline for contacting people in your constituency and share with Peace Day staff. Develop plan in conversation with Peace Day staff.
  • District organizers: Contact each congregation in your district via phone or in person by August 3, 2013.
  • Record registrants’ information in Peace Day spreadsheet or ensure online registration.
  • Participate in staff calls and/or other regular communication to work smoothly as part of the team.
